185# Deadlift
Out of all the exercises I stopped doing post back surgery, deadlifts have been the one that scared me the most.
I honestly thought I would never do them again, which made me sad because they are my favorite.
As per usual, my amazing wife slowly trained me and helped me build the form and confidence to perform the motion again.
First I started doing hex bar squats. Then I added a bit of weight. Then I started doing good mornings with weight. Then I started doing RDLs with the barbell. Then I did very light deadlifts and then I continuously did all of those exercises in progression.
In total, it’s been about 5 years of slow rehab.
Today, I did my first set of 10 at 185 pounds.
I’m surprised how light it felt. I’m significantly stronger than I used to be.
I was also surprised at how quickly I wanted to jump right up and do 225 pounds. But I checked my ego and took the W. It’s been 7 years since I deadlifted 315. What’s another month or two?
Check it out.
