A Behind The Scenes Look At My LinkedIn Analytics (Build In Public #4)
I've never had any media asset that generates as much traffic as LinkedIn. Here's how I'm doing it.
Good morning. Happy Monday.
This is the fourth edition of my weekly “Building In Public” series. Each Monday I share with you my wins, losses, and lessons from the previous week.
These lessons are what I’ve learned on my journey to grow my personal holdings company to $10,000,000 a year.
Let’s dive in.
Before we start, tomorrow’s newsletter is an in depth interview with Lara Acosta and is available for paid subscribers only. Click to button below to become a subscriber.
P.S. - This is your last chance to get in at this current price. Starting tomorrow, I am increasing the price to $10 a month or $99 a year.
1. LinkedIn Is CRUSHING IT For Me
Ever since Charles and I partnered, we have joked about me secretly wanting to be a social media influencer.
Deep down, we all secretly want the attention. I’m human, so I’d be lying if I said I don’t get a dopamine hit out of the likes and comments.
Charles has been teaching me how to build my social media presence and I think I am finally getting to the point where I can consider myself “influential.”
(Ew)
Jokes aside, I wish I started this years before I did.
I went all in on LinkedIn in 2021, when Charles and I met. I was shocked at how much revenue he was generating from his LinkedIn profile, and being the overly obsessive type, I called him endlessly until he agreed to speak to me, and then somehow convinced him to join The Copyblogger team and help me build my own profile.
The results speak for themselves. Let’s check it out.
Basic Numbers:
I have about 45,000 followers on LinkedIn, which all things considered, isn’t that much. But it’s definitely enough to be generating real results.
There are two main criteria I look at when measuring the success of my account.
The first criteria I look at is the comments. LinkedIn amplifies content that is getting a lot of comments and so I can gauge whether my content is generating value (both for myself and also for my audience) on whether people are commenting on my posts. I can’t believe that my last 3 posts have averaged 250 comments per post.
That is absolutely insane to me.
The more comments I get, the more profile views I get. Profile views are the second criteria that I measure on determining the success of my content.
You can see below that I’ve generated almost almost 8500 profile views over the course of the last 90 days. That’s 2833 people each month who want to know more about about.
My profile is where people can subscribe to my products. People are viewing and discovering my content organically, and then they click on my name to visit my profile and learn more about me.
This leads to more sales for Copyblogger Academy.
All of my social media is dedicated towards growing awareness to Copyblogger Academy. So the more awareness I generate on my LinkedIn, the more sales I make.
I spent the first 10 years of my career learning and mastering SEO. For me, SEO was the right skillset and I’ve build most of my success from publishing long form writing and generating inbound search traffic.
I don’t regret my path one but, but I wish I started my social media journey sooner than I did. I was always intimidated by social media simply because it felt attention seeking.
Well … it IS attention seeking, and that’s okay.
LinkedIn is POWERFUL. I am riding this wave to the fullest. I’m sure the day will come when a new platform becomes more important and we all flock over there, but until that day comes, I’m all in on LinkedIn.
You should be too.

2. We’re Staying Small, For Now
In last week’s Build In Public issue, I wrote about how I was thinking of expanding my agency to accept clients outside of behavioral health.
Ultimately, we decided against it.
Stodzy Internet Marketing is in a transition phase right now. SEO has changed and this year, we already added design, development and PPC to our list of services.
2024 has brought with it so much change, and I think we need to take our foot off the gas pedal and sit in the routine we have.
We can always expand in the future, but for now, the right thing to do is to stay on the path we are on.
More growth isn’t always better. The best thing we can do as a company is continue to get better at the facilitating services we currently provide. We have plenty of room to grow inside the behavioral health space.
I’m not chasing this squirrel, yet.
3. I Am So Inspired By My Students
My coaching program is a hit.
Honestly, I never thought so many people would want to work with me one on one.
I have not asked my students for permission to tell their stories or to disclose their names, but let me tell you how inspired and impressed I am with them.
Our society is always trying to find ways to divide us, or to create controversy in order to get attention or generate demand. But the reality is we are all so much more alike than we are different.
At face value, I look different than my students. We are all different races, genders, and have different accents. But at our core, we all wake up and work hard to provide for our families and live the best lives possible. That’s what everyone wants, right? We all want to do work that we enjoy while giving and receiving love. It’s really that simple.
My students are hard working, resourceful, and inspiring.
I am so happy I decided to commit to coaching. It feels like a new chapter in my life.
In Closing
I have been pretty hard on myself recently. Actually, I’ve been hard on myself for my entire life. I never feel like I’m doing good enough.
I want to do more as a husband, I want to be the perfect Dad, I want to always be growing. But sometimes, the best thing for any of us to do is to rest and relax and let the answers come to us.
If I look objectively, I know that I am doing a great job. I think I’m balancing work, fitness, and family pretty well. I still don’t have many friends, but I do have people who I hug after we punch and kick each other every Saturday during sparring at Muay Thai training.
That will suffice for now.
The point is, be easy on yourself. I’ll try to be easy on myself as well.
Love you guys. Talk to you tomorrow.
Tim
