A Big Moment
My wife and I make a really good team.
There is one main reason for this, and that is our recovery.
You see, when you get your ass whooped by addiction, you lose a piece of your ego. You become completely at utterly convinced that you will never “beat” this thing. It’s got you, it will beat you every time, forever.
So recovery isn’t only a way to improve your life, it’s also a way to live your life. It’s a design for living. It’s a way to live with life on life’s terms and a way to become comfortable with how little control you actually have.
This design for living allows up to communicate in a way that most people aren’t able to (or at least not willing to).
These tools really come in handy when you encounter tension filled situations. For instance, how in the hell do we get our two and a half year old to sleep in his bed?
It was not easy. These are the parts of parenting that you don’t think about.
A few days ago, we got him to sleep in his room, which meant be basically fell asleep on the floor. Weird I know, but apparently it’s pretty common.
And then, last night we put him to bed and watched as he started tucking his stuffed animals in bed. 🥺
Then he laid next to his stuffed animals and passed out.
These are the real life areas when recovery, and the tools it gives you, come in handy. Without these tools, I probably would have either got angry and frustrated at the little dude or felt annoyed at him for being 2 1/2.
Jules and I had a plan and communicated through the whole thing. I’m really proud of us.
Here’s the proof
