On Tuesday, I started writing an article all about my journey of growing Copyblogger from $0 for $50,000 a month. This article has slowly morphed itself into an epic guide and it’s taking me forever.
If you’re interested in learning how to build a successful membership site, then you will want to read this guide. I’m breaking down my entire process, from the tech stack, to the marketing, the community, the sales, and the people. It’s so high level.
I am hoping to publish it (for paid subscribers only) next week.
Because of this epic guide I am writing, I haven’t published a daily issue since Monday. So today, I am dropping a quick life update to say hi. 👋
LFG. 🔥
1. Remodeling The House
In a previous issue, I told you guys about my plan to slowly build a portfolio of rental properties. Jules and I will live in our current home in Denver until we decide to do something else, but in the meantime, I will make the house be as “rental friendly” as possible.
We have already installed new carpets (they look great), and currently we are …
painting the entire house (interior and exterior)
remodeling the bathroom
putting the washer and dryer in the basement (Apparently, it’s more desirable these days to have a washer and dryer on the first floor because people are too lazy to walk up and down the stairs. This is insane to me)
remodeling the kitchen
Here’s my current bathroom situation. I’ll send you pictures when it’s done.
Also, here is a before and after of the exterior. I am so excited about the paint because over the last 30 years, the house has shifted and it created some cracks in the siding. So the painters used almost 15 tubes of caulk and literally sealed every single seam.
Before
After
It’s hard to tell in the picture, but when you look at it from the front, it looks even more awesome because the porch is painted black and the door has black molding.
The only problem is now you can so clearly tell how old the windows are, so we’ll have to dish out more money for new windows. But black windows will look sick.
I’m really excited about it. Having contractors in the house for weeks at a time is stressful, but we always knew if we were going to buy the place, then we were going to modernize it and turn it into a legitimate cash flowing investment.
2. We’re Going To Belgium
Jules is a breathe work instructor, and she got invited to facilitate two breathe work events in Belgium, which is awesome.
We leave on Monday for Brussels, and then we also go to Antwerp.
Yes, we are taking the kiddos and I’m pretty anxious about a full day of traveling with The Little Dude and The Sweet Girl. Nonetheless, it’s going to be an amazing trip. I can’t wait to share pictures with you.
3. I’m Launching My Newest Directory
For the last 5 months, I’ve been quietly working on a new directory project. I am so excited about it. The directory is called platretreats.com, and it’s an online platform that lists all the different psychedelic retreats throughout the world.
This project is different than the other directories I’ve built, because it’s not as simple as listing the businesses. Retreats are events, and so attached to each business listing, is a feed of events which are the actual dates in which the retreats are hosted.
I’m really excited about this space. I’m not personally involved in doing psychedelics, however I know people who have had life transforming experiences and so it’s a space I really believe in.
It’s mind blowing to me that our society spends billions of dollars are awful synthetic drugs and don’t take advantage of all the beautiful and natural medicines that the earth provides. Most notably food.
Anyway, I’ll get off my soap box. Below is a picture of the site.
There will be some challenges with this directory, because it’s not the same business model that I’m used to. I will explain the plan in a future issue, but for now my main priority is simply to get the site live.
4. Getting Back On YouTube
My office was a mess for the last two weeks because of the painters. I finally got my office back together, and just when I was getting ready to hit record, the contractors started smashing up the bathroom upstairs lol.
I really want to be more committed to recording and publishing videos. It’s funny because as much as I encourage people to not overthink and to simply publish their ideas on the internet, I get fearful of doing this with video format.
I’ve been using the noise in the house as an excuse not to make more videos. But I have an iPhone and I have plenty to talk about.
Starting today, I am committing to publishing one video a week no matter what.
I Hope You’re Doing Great
It’s only been a few days since I published, but I actually feel incomplete without my daily writing habit.
I miss the daily replies and I miss interacting with you. So please feel free to hit reply and let me know what you got going on in your life.
Love you guys. Talk to you Monday.
Tim
The house looks awesome Tim, as does the new site! This is my favorite description of what's possible with psychedelics and the most beautiful way I've found to describe the experience (From Michael Pollan):
"Think of your mind as a snow covered hill and your thoughts as sleds.
After a while the grooves get so deep, you can't go down any other way.
Now, think of the psychedelic experience as a fresh snowfall filling all the groove.
Suddenly, you can take any path you want down the hill."
Enjoy Belgium, get to Bruges if you have time - 1 hour from Brussels by train! "It's a fairytale town - all those canals and bridges and cobbled streets and those churches, all that beautiful fairytale stuff."
House looks great I’m loving Substack!
