Brain Dump
My daily newsletter is free and it always will be. I love and value the thousands of people who read my newsletter every morning. If you’re able, I ask you to consider contributing $5 a month to help support my work. If you can’t afford it, I hope you’ll share my work and help others. Thanks.
There’s a lot to do. There’s a few things that have fallen behind this year. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I’m starting to see where I lost focus and the consequences of that are coming to light.
Here’s a list of all the things I need to prioritize while we wrap up the year.
1. Sober Nation Organic Traffic
This has probably been my biggest mistake of 2020. I have had other responsibilities in my life that were taking priority, but I wish I paid more attention to this.
Rebuilding our organic traffic should be a simple process, but it still has to get done.
In this order…
Clean up the backlink profile - I wrote the check to Marie Haynes. Her team is going through the backlink profile to find the bad links that could be hurting our rankings. She’ll send in the disavow file. I feel optimistic about it.
Restructure the content - Sober Nation is all over the place. We have personal stories, medical advice, fellowship based resources, podcasts, etc. Time to clean it up and make it a professional addiction recovery resource.
Tighten the SEO - This is what got away from me the most. The interior links, the structural soundness of the content, the formatting, etc. It’s like a giant hedge bush that hasn’t been trimmed.
2 - Stodzy Sales Funnel
This was the first year we have ever hired a sales person. Austin has been a great addition to the team and it’s been nice to feel like the burden of sales is off of me.
But there’s more work to do.
The Stodzy site is generating more leads and phone calls than ever, but we haven’t yet built a high level sales system and sales funnel to take most advantage of that traffic.
In this order…
Redesign our sales and industry pages - I consider myself a high level copywriter, but I haven’t executed on any foundational copy on my own site. We are building perfect sales pages that should 2X or 3X our conversions. This entire project should be done by February.
Better sales process - When a phone call or a form lead comes through, we don’t have a great lead nurturing system. It’s not bad, but it’s not great. In December, we will build a higher level automation and nurturing system.
3 - Copyblogger
There is so much to do for Copyblogger. The credibility of this brand means a lot to me. It’s so important that I continue to clean up the little mistakes and bring Copyblogger to glory.
These changes are simple, but will have HUGE impacts on the success and profitability of this monster company.
In this order…
Incorporate a better community in Copyblogger Pro - We have integrated Circle into Copyblogger Pro. It will make for a much better community experience. I should have this done by next week.
Fix the sales pages - This is the thing that bothers me the most. Copyblogger is one of the most respected writing and copywriting resources in the world. How do we not have amazing sales pages? Our courses can’t even be found on the site and they need much better sales pages.
SEO SEO SEO SEO - There’s no reason why we can’t 5X the organic traffic for Copyblogger. It has everything it needs except for a strategy. This will take some time, but by 2021, I hope to be at a million hits a month.
Thanks for letting me brain dump.
