This is the second edition of my weekly “Building In Public” series. Each Monday I share with you my wins, losses, and lessons from the previous week.
These lessons are what I’ve learned on my journey to grow my personal holdings company.
Let’s dive in.
1. I Discovered A Huge Mistake In My Sales Process
For the last year, I’ve been working hard to build an amazing sales team and process for Stodzy Internet Marketing. Ever since we created the company, I have been in charge of the sales. If I want to hit $10M a year, I know I will need a sales team.
Part of building the sales team is lead generation. Lead generation is one of my strong suits. Over the last few months, I have been scratching my head as to why I wasn’t generating more leads from the website.
My keyword rankings have been strong. I’ve been meticulously creating content and generating more and more traffic.
So what’s the problem?
Well, it turns out that I didn’t properly set up my HubSpot notifications. Even though each lead form was set to email me, I somehow set in the main settings of my entire account not to send me any notification emails.
I only noticed the mistake after I created the forms for my coaching and my personal consulting services.
Guess how many leads I missed out on?
100 inbound leads.
Granted, when I discovered my mistake, I also discovered how to insert captcha, so about half of those leads were spam. Regardless, that’s about 50 qualified leads from potential customers that I didn’t know we’re there.
What a huge mistake. I’m still kicking myself.
I’m half relieved to know that my SEO work has been generating leads this whole time, and I’m half furious at myself for not double checking all my work.
Devastating.
2. I Finalized The Deal For A New Project I’m Stoked About
If you’ve been following my writing for long enough, you will know that I am very excited about the healthcare spaces of longevity, bio hacking, hormones, and holistic wellness.
Our medical system doesn’t keep us well, it preys on us when we’re sick. I see this as a huge opportunity.
I believe there is a wave of health advocacy from millennials who are sick and tired of paying hospital bills. It’s much cheaper and efficient to simply take care of your health and avoid getting sick in the first place.
In January, Jules and I went to Thailand. I went to Thailand to meet a new potential business partner that I had met via Twitter. He and I built a relationship and slowly worked towards building a new company. He and I now have a great friendship and working relationship and I’m thrilled to announce the launch of The Longevity Clinic.
My partner has been building the company in stealth for the last 6 months. Soon, I will start my work.
I’m pumped. I can’t wait to tell you what I learn about this market and about selling these services. It’s gonna be a game changer.
Final Thoughts
I’m reminded this week of the value of writing.
Since starting my daily newsletter, I’ve generated almost 10 inbound leads for my coaching program as well as 60 new paid subscribers.
And although I totally botched my lead generation system, I’ve encouraged to know that all of the inbound leads I generated game from SEO, and inbound traffic.
There’s nothing more valuable than good writing. If you write every day, over the courses of months and years, you will be unstoppable.
It’s a statistical certainty.
Love you guys. Talk to you tomorrow.
Tim.
P.S. - Tomorrow’s newsletter is for paid subscribers only. I will be breaking down the revenue numbers for my latest real estate purchase. No stone left unturned.
