Controlling Your Mind
I’ve been reading every day about Stoicism.
As best I can tell, being stoic is the act of monitoring and tempering your thoughts. The practice has been really helping me.
Many times over the last 10 days, I have found myself in situations where my thoughts are running away from me. This leads to the standard reactions, such as …
checking my email
walking in circles
doing nothing
delaying my next set in the weight room
Recently I have been repeating this mantra to myself.
“Control your mind. Control your thinking.”
When I say that to myself, it reminds me that I am in charge. If I am delaying my next set on the squat rack, it’s only because my mind is controlling me.
It’s been helping a lot.
