Everything Is Telling Me To Do Less
Yes, we’re still in Thailand. Yes, we’re having a great time.
I have been reading science fiction lately, because I don’t want to interrupt the mental clarity I have after reading Essentialism. That book had such an impact on me that I purposefully avoided other non fiction and self help books so that I can soak myself in the message of Essentialism.
While in our villa, I knew I would spend a lot of time reading, so naturally I needed another book.
I decided to take the plunge into another non fiction book, and it seems like The Universe is screaming at me and telling me that the next leveling up process in my life will come through doing less, and not by doing more.
As such, my kindle recommended a book called “10X is easier than 2X.” I’ve been reading it all week. I actually just finished it a few moments ago..
It’s about making choices and building systems that encourage exponential growth, as opposed to doing more of the same which encourages linear growth.
The idea is that all the most competition is at the top of the bell curve. So by trying to advance (in anything) by linear growth is even harder than trying to advance by exponential growth. Because everyone is trying to advance linearly.
So in a very real way, thinking big and setting big goals increases your likelihood of success.
But what does that mean practically?
It means you can’t be wasting your time on busy work and trying to win by “working harder than the next guy / gal.”
It means your progress needs to be made through creativity and leverage, rather than effort and busyness.
Less is more.
Less, but better.
I’m listening.
