How To Get More Clients For Your Agency
It's not what you think, but it's what has worked best for me.
One of the reasons I’ve been able to build multiple income streams is that I’ve consistently created reliable cash flow.
For me, cash flow has always come from the marketing agencies I’ve built or been a part of.
That sounds great, but let’s be real. Starting a marketing agency doesn’t guarantee clients will come knocking. What’s made the difference for me is that I’ve always been able to generate business. The secret? I’ve followed the “audience first” approach that Brian Clark taught me.
In this article, I’ll share how you can consistently generate clients for your business.

The Answer Is To Create A Media Company
Sober Nation was the first real brand I ever started. When I launched it, I didn’t expect it to turn into such an asset. At the time, I was reading Copyblogger religiously, soaking in its “audience first” philosophy. The idea was simple. If you consistently create content that serves your audience, monetization will eventually follow.
I didn’t know how it would pan out, but I kept writing with blind faith that somehow it would pay off.
Eventually, Behavioral Healthcare Centers Reached Out
The first contact I received was from a women’s-only drug rehab in Ft. Lauderdale. The owner had been following Sober Nation, was impressed by the audience I’d built, and wanted to collaborate. She hoped to reach people in my community who needed treatment.
Instead of doing that, I flipped the script. I told her that, rather than tapping into my audience, I could help her build a community of her own.
That was the start of everything.
For the first three years, Sober Nation’s media presence was the main way I generated clients. Over time, Stodzy Internet Marketing developed its own reputation, unified branding, and referral network. But at its core, the media and audience always came first.
I’ve Repeated The Process Over And Over Again
When I acquired Copyblogger, I didn’t have a monetization strategy in place. So I used the site’s traffic to generate leads for an agency. That’s how we created Digital Commerce Partners, and we started generating business right away.
For my consulting company, I use my blog, what you’re reading right now, to attract clients.
Charles and I also built a hybrid LinkedIn growth agency. We leverage our personal LinkedIn accounts to create audiences and use those audiences to close deals.
Every time, it works.
The biggest obstacle? Most people lack the patience to create content consistently without seeing immediate results. It takes time. That’s why so many people give up before they see the payoff.
In Closing
The formula is simple. Build an audience and the opportunities will follow.
I appreciate you all for taking the time to read this. Keep creating. Keep building.
Love you guys. Talk to you tomorrow.
