How to Use Instagram Stories Highlights
Instagram just released a new update and feature to their "stories" platform.
As you all know, Instagram basically stole the disappearing content strategy from Snapchat. However, they have quickly surpassed their competitor in terms of innovation and steady improvements.
Once again, Instagram has listened to their users and have given us exactly what they want. This update is a game changer.
What are Instagram Story Highlights?
For the past year, Instagram stories has been a great way to express yourself through the app. One of the perceived downsides was that the content disappeared after 24 hours. Now, you can highlight some of your favorite stories into "categories" directory onto your profile.
You can easily swap out cover photos for your highlights, and highlights stay in your profile for as long as you want them to. This way you share share different sides of yourself for the world to see. For instance, I have already created a highlight category for Stodzy, which will include all my work stories. Another one for workouts and I imagine there will be more to come.
You can pick and chose which stories you want featured in highlights. You can remove some and add new ones. You do this through the second part of this feature which is called Stories archives.
What Are Instagram Story Archives?
Your archives are now your log book of previous stories. Now, stories will automatically save in the archive once they expire. First, you need to change a setting.
Click on your setting tab -> story settings -> click the "save to archive" toggle.
Now, every time you post a story, it will be automatically be saved in your archives. You can revisit your archives at anytime by pushing the little clock icon on the top right of your profile.
Now you have options to edit your highlight, repost old content, or simply browse through your personal memories.
How Will This Improve Marketing?
The possibilities are endless. It's all a matter on how creative you want to get.
Off the top of my head, I see different highlight being created by brands. For instance, maybe a clothing company would create highlights for pants, shirts, look books, different models, etc.
It's also a way for new users to get to know your company, your brand and your message very quickly.
