I Think I'm a Republican
I enjoyed a lot of the dialogue that I had with most of my readers yesterday. These are sensitive subjects and it’s never easy for any of us to express our views with clarity, and without creating more anger and fear.
It’s a thin line to walk across. We’re all figuring it out.
However, I was given a suggestion yesterday and I think it’s worth repeating.
“In your post you talk about Trumpism being a cancer and PEOPLE BEING HUNTED DOWN. THAT sounds like a "radical" viewpoint to me.”
She was right…
I wish I hadn’t used the word “hunted.” It was a poor choice of words and in looking back, there are a few other comments I made that I wish I hadn’t published.
That’s the risk I take every day by publishing my writing. I don’t have an editor and 99% of what I say usually could use some more time to be thought about.
I will do better.
Most people might be shocked to read this, but in most cases, I identify as a republican.
Since so many of you asked, here’s what I believe.
I believe in small government and capitalism.
I believe that capitalism needs to be regulated by the government or else monopoly is inevitable.
I believe the only thing more terrifying than fascism is socialism. Socialism has never worked and will never work because the foundation of the methodology will always implode on itself and people will eventually always starve to death.
I believe education should be paid for, and I believe $80,000 for an education is a cruel and unnecessary racket that is crippling our young people’s ability to make progress in their lives and careers.
I believe in equal opportunity. I detest forced equality of outcome.
I believe in individual responsibility.
I believe the foundation of capitalism is risk and reward. You can’t tax rich people too disproportionally because the investors are usually the ones who are risking their money. With that said, you also can’t let them get away with tax havens and hording assets either. It doesn’t make sense that Amazon pays less in taxes than the typical working class citizen. It’s a recipe for disaster.
I believe in common sense governing.
I believe in privatized healthcare. The solution isn’t free healthcare, the solution is a healthier country.
I believe the answer to almost every problem in the world is to create more wealth.
So you tell me. Am I republican? Am I democrat?
Till this day, I’m not really sure. I think most of my beliefs are republican.
Okay so look, in getting to the point, I don’t really care if you voted for Trump. That doesn’t bother me.
I’d say that 80% of Trump voters did so because they saw his policies and identified with them more so than left leaning policies. Some of the policies I listed above are examples.
Where I draw the line is the lies. We can’t give in to these lies anymore. Trump has been feeding lies. Last time I checked he said almost 100,000 lies during his presidency.
That’s sociopathic and we all know it.
The biggest lie of all is that the election was rigged. It wasn’t. It was a free and fair election that was monitored and performed by countless local level officials on both sides of the isle.
There were over 60 court cases filed. These court cases were seen by federally appointed judges (many of whom were appointed by Trump) and every single one of them was denied for lack of merit. There’s no evidence. Not a single shred of evidence. Not one.
Yet the lies continue. Every day, more lies and more lies and more lies. It’s the lies that stormed the Capital Building.
We can’t have tolerance anymore for lies.
As time goes on, I hope that the temperature comes down and we can all start trusting each other more. I for one know that I have never felt so skeptical of strangers. The isolation from the virus, the unhealthy echo chambers we all live in, I know that I’m guilty in some capacity to feeding into it.
I need to do better.
But just so everyone is clear, what I am talking about is a stance against lies. It’s the lies that turned regular hard working people into terrorists.
Lies have consequences.
So what’s next?
Well, I for one and looking forward to a regular day of getting back to work. I personally need to find a way to get out of this space in my mind. Yesterday felt better and this morning I feel like I’m in a better space than yesterday.
To my daily readers, I promise that I won’t write any more political posts.
I love writing about entrepreneurship, and about birds I find, and nature, traveling and sharing new ideas to help you build a profitable business.
I will continue to approach my daily blog with positivity and kindness.
I love you guys. Thanks to all of you who continue to read my blog. I’ve been writing almost every day for years and I never thought I would have thousands of people who want to hear what I have to say.
It’s not something I take lightly. I’m trying to figure it out.
Talk to you tomorrow.
