It's Time To Get My Sh!t Together (Building In Public #6)
Good morning. Happy Monday.
This is the sixth edition of my weekly “Building In Public” series. Each Monday I share with you my wins, losses, and lessons from the previous week.
These lessons are what I’ve learned on my journey to grow my personal holdings company to $10,000,000 a year.
Let’s dive in.
This issue is free for everyone, but if want behind the scenes access on creating multiple income streams, I hope you’ll consider becoming a paid member by subscribing below.
1. My Biggest Challenge Is Organization
I’ve never been a very organized person. One of the common themes in my life as an entrepreneur is that I’ve never been good at keeping my calendar organized or my tasks organized.
I do my best to mediate this by writing in my journal every morning and creating my daily “power list” to help me stay on track. But as I’ve grown into more serious roles as a business owner, I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve often let tasks slip through the cracks or even in some cases, I’ve not been accountable for meetings and commitments.
I’m not a lazy person at all. But for some reason, when it comes to being discipline about organization, I’ve always fallen short.
Over the last month, I’ve let this get out of hand. I’ve missed some time commitments, I’ve left people hanging, and I didn’t bring my absolute best foot forward with some customers I have in business.
I must be better here. It’s so disrespectful to others when I fall short on commitments I’ve made or forgot about.
I must be better here. I am taking the steps necessary.
2. I Am Starting Again With My Business Coach
Working with my coach has been one of the highest value ads to my life and my career.
Everything is easier when you have accountability and an outside viewpoint to show you what’s going on. The same is true with fitness. You can be the most discipline person in the world, but having a personal trainer will still level you up with your fitness.
For the last year, I haven’t been working with her. I got to a point where I decided that I knew everything I needed to know and I could self regulate everything on my own. Clearly, this was a mistake as over the course of the last year, (see above) the nuts and bolts of my machine have started to get loose.
Everyone needs help. We all need others. We all need people to show us the truth about a situation that you and I might not be able to see because we are too close to it.
I’m really excited and relieved to have my coach back on my team. If I want to accomplish these big goals I’ve set for myself, then I need to accountability and the outside perspective.
3. I’m Committing To Creating My Directory Product
I can not tell you how much interest I have had from people who want to buy a course on how to create cash flowing directories.
I never in a million years thought there would be so much interest in this model. I thought I was the only one who liked boring but profitable businesses. Turns out, there are a lot of people out there who have interest in this model.
This is one of dozens of emails and comments I’ve gotten.
I have created the outline. I am going to try and have the product completed and published by next Friday.
It’s going to be insanely valuable and pretty expensive. I think I’ll sell it for $449 to start and increase the price for every 100 I sell.
In Closing
I’m always mindful not to be a productivity zombie or to be a motivational guru. The truth is that I have bad days just like everyone else. I have a lot of positive success stories to write about, but believe me, I make mistakes all the time.
I’m feeling a bit down on myself recently. I feel like I have so much more to give and the main thing holding me back is that my thoughts are all over the place and the lack of focus has me spinning in different directions.
This is manifesting itself in the form of being disorganized.
I am taking the steps needed and I will do better.
Love you guys. Talk to you tomorrow.
