I’ve been pondering this Tweet posted by my friend Ben.
This afternoon, Jules and I were going for a walk in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood has a lot of new houses being built and sold, and we always try to guess the home prices of all the new homes that go up for sale.
We were talking about style. I said …
“I wonder if 20 years from now, people will look at our home style and think it’s ugly. You know how we make fun of houses that are still from the 70’s? With the brown walls and ugly kitchen cabinets. But I think modern homes are so cool. Hardwood floors. Flat paint on the walls. White shiny kitchen counters with big center islands. How could anyone ever think this isn’t sleek and stylish?”
Jules said …
“Yeah but there is already a wave of people who feel like the minimalist style millennials love has no artistic expression.”
But it made me realize that every generation has it’s way of doing things.
Our generation will be no different.
That’s what I thought about when I saw this tweet.
Can you believe that the radio advertising complex has $10 billion dollars of ad revenue a year?! I mean, when’s the last time you actually listened to the radio?
Meanwhile, podcasting only does $4 billion.
So these new trends like podcasting, social networks, email, blogging, etc. … they’re are just getting started. We’re probably at the end of the beginning.
It’s not new trends don’t move fast, it’s that the rate at which people remain comfortable with their way of doing things is always slow.
Very good way of looking at it.
