My Plan To Get 10,000 YouTube Subscribers and Turn My Channel Into An Asset
This opportunity is too big for me to pass up, I just need to focus and execute.
It’s time I start taking YouTube more seriously. Even with my small following, I’ve already generated a lot of leads and closed a few deals.
Earlier this year, I had a good rhythm with YouTube. However, traveling to Belgium and, more recently, to Costa Rica really threw a wrench in my consistency.
In addition, I’ve closed several deals and started a new company (more on that this week), so I’ve intentionally deprioritized creating YouTube content.
But the opportunity is too big to let slip by.
Starting now, I’m all in. I have the bandwidth, I have a niche, and I have a plan.
Today, I’ll share exactly how I plan to turn my YouTube channel into a cash-generating machine.
LFG. 🔥
Step 1: Create a Cadence
I’m an expert at building audiences. I’ve done this many times while creating my companies, and all my experience tells me this: the only true “hack” to generating a following is to be consistent.
There’s nothing more important. The game is about volume and cadence.
Volume: You never really know what content will resonate most, so your best bet is to create as much as possible to increase the chances that something hits.
Consistency: Starting is easy; sticking with it is hard. People will only take you seriously if they see you consistently over time.
All the strategy and planning in the world mean nothing if I’m not able to execute. My goal is to publish at least one video every week. Ideally, as I build an infrastructure, I’d like to have a daily show to complement my newsletter.
Step 2: Focus on My Niche
This is more challenging because I’m involved in several industries, each of which could be a niche of its own.
My plan is to create playlists that give me the freedom to explore different topics while maintaining a cohesive theme: sharing my experiences, not giving advice.
The world doesn’t need another talking head YouTube channel with “experts” sharing “secrets” or “99% of people get this wrong” tips. My approach has always been to differentiate myself by openly sharing what I’m working on, what I’m building, and what I’ve learned.
My mission is to document my journey.
Here’s what I’ll focus on:
Building directories
Lead generation
SEO
AI and automation
Case studies of what I’ve built
Book reviews (because I love to read)
Vlogs and adventures (because I love hiking, traveling, and spending time with my family)
While focusing on one niche might be the “best” strategy for lead generation, I know that my brand will grow as long as I stick with the plan. Plus, if I don’t enjoy the process, I won’t stick with it.
By focusing my content on entrepreneurship while diversifying into these categories, I’m confident it’s specific enough.
Step 3: Expand Editing to Cross-Promote
I’m not a fan of short-form content. I’ve never watched a short-form video and felt emotionally engaged enough to subscribe to the creator.
Short-form content feels like smoking crack: addicting but not fun. Yet, for some reason, people keep consuming it.
In an ideal world, I’d publish one long-form video daily (around 10 minutes) and build a following so robust that others start creating short-form content from my videos. Think Joe Rogan or Peter Zeihan—they don’t create short-form content, but others do it for them, generating millions of views.
That said, platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn favor shorter content. While I don’t plan to prioritize short-form yet, I’ll eventually explore these options:
Using tools like Opus to create short clips.
Hiring a short-form editor (probably Isaac—he’s the man).
Ignoring short-form altogether.
For now, my main goal is to publish one video every week for the next three months. Once I establish a rhythm, I’ll reassess how short-form content can fit into my strategy.
Step 4: Focus on Sales and New Business
I have no interest in being a "YouTuber." For this to be worth my time, it must translate into leads and deals.
Over the last five months, my YouTube channel has generated about $37,000 in revenue, mostly from people hiring me to build directories or consult on growth.
There’s a clear opportunity in directories, so I’ll focus on this for the next few months. I’ve purchased the domain SixFigureDirectories.com and plan to generate leads through that site. I’ll monetize by:
Selling a course (it’s coming, I promise).
Offering a service where I build directories for clients.
Beyond directories, my larger goal is to use my YouTube channel to support my newly rebranded agency.
Why?
Because my client services business generates the cash flow that allows me to invest in other companies. It’s a win/win, but it hinges on my ability to create leads and sales through YouTube.
If I can’t do that, creating YouTube content isn’t worth the effort.
Step 5: Book Speaking Gigs?
My top priority is closing deals. If that’s all I achieve through YouTube, it will still be a huge success.
That said, I have a secondary goal of booking speaking gigs. I’ve been invited to speak at conferences before, and to my surprise, I really enjoy it.
If I can book a few speaking engagements each year through my channel, that would be a pleasant bonus.
Okay, that’s it for now. Wish me luck. Starting now, videos will be published every Thursday.
Love you guys. Talk tomorrow.
