Not Everything Needs to Be About Race
I stumbled across this post on LinkedIn yesterday.
For the record, I know Carrie. I don’t know her well, but I know her work and we’ve chatted a couple times. She’s a good person. She means well.
And that’s the problem. Everyone “means well.”
Regardless of intention, this type of stuff has no good outcome. There is such painful irony here because every time people make posts like this, they are actually doing the same exact thing that they are trying to ridicule.
They are alienating people. Creating divisions and drawing attention to nuance rather then simply accepting the fact that life is messy and complicated and weird.
Sometimes, things can just be what they are.
Does anyone think that being triggered by the phrase “American” is helping anyone? Or solving anything?
I don’t.
