Politics on an X and Y Axis
I’ve been really enjoying the published lectures and discussions from the All In Summit last week in Miami.
One of my favorite lectures was a presentation by Tim Urban.
He argues that our political spectrum shouldn’t be viewed as “left and right,” but we should also add a vertical axis that measures the level of “rung.”
High run politics are still very convicted in “what” they think (meaning where they fall in the left or right), and they are also willing to defend their beliefs. But a high rung politician welcomes the process of politic discourse and conversation.
It was brilliant. We’ve been looking at it all wrong.
All of us fall in a quadrant. I highly recommend watching the presentation.
P.S. - There is a discussion on the back half of the video as well which was also interesting, but the presentation is only about the first 30 minutes.
