Setting The Standard
I’m obsessed with The Eagles, as you know.
I can’t stop thinking about Jalen Hurts. More specifically, his leadership style.
I notice he says the same things over and over again. Every time he’s in an interview, he repeats himself and his mantras.
“this is the standard and we hold ourselves to the highest standard”
“we need to keep the main thing the main thing”
“wining is the only thing that matters.”
I’ve been repeating these mantras in my head recently, especially as it pertains to the leveling up we are doing with Stodzy.
Over the years, I have discovered that leadership isn’t what most people think it is. In my view, leadership is about two things.
Making decisions
Deciding what you will tolerate
I’m really coming to terms with that. I’m coming to grips with the fact that it is my responsibility to make choices, because that’s ultimately the hardest thing to do.
In addition, it’s my responsibility to decide what I will tolerate.
You don’t get what you deserve or even what you ask for. You get what you tolerate.
So, as the leader, it’s my job to set the standard, because everything will fall to the standard. I don’t believe that we rise to circumstances, but rather we fall to the lowest level available to us. Some people are able to set standards for themselves, others need standards set for them
So it’s my job to make the highest level the only one that’s available. Nothing else can be tolerated.
