Jules and I love watching the show Comedians in Cars Drinking Coffee.
It’s the best show. It’s easy to watch. It’s mindless while also being thought provoking. Last night, Jules and I watched the episode with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. For those of you who don’t know, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is Elaine from Seinfeld.
It was a great episode, you could tell that Jerry Seinfeld and Elaine were really great friends. They had a casual conversation that was lighthearted and care free.
At some point in the show, Julia Louis-Dreyfus made the claim that "my mother told me that the secret to happiness is always having something to look forward to.”
I loved that.
My first thought was of the recent UFC event. I was so excited about it. I thought about the weeks before the event and how often I talked about how much I was looking forward to it. It was such a small life event, but every time I thought about it, it gave me a burst of excitement and gave me an extra boost of energy when I was deep into the work week.
I think it makes sense to always have a vacation on the horizon, always have a trip you’re excited about, always have a dinner in the books with you and your friends.
Now that Covid is over, I fully plan to be back out in the world. I’m looking forward to getting to Florida to meet some friends and have some over due business meetings. I’m looking forward to getting to the lake with Bryan and Josh, and doing some wake boarding.
I’m looking forward to getting to Philly in the summer time, and I’m looking forward to all the weddings on the horizon.
We’ve all been living deep in the “one day at a time” mindset. I wake up, I drink my coffee, I close deals, I workout, I go to sleep, I repeat.
It’s time to get back to living our lives. One of the first steps to that is creating plans so we can all have something to look forward to.
I couldn't agree more. I did not stop traveling at all last year and those trips that I got to look forward to every couple of months helped keep my spirits up. I've told many of my clients the same thing, that they need something to look forward to - it gets you through the muck and the mud. Hope is a wonderful thing.
