I had a realization today.
I’ve (as in my team and I) have made amazing progress over the last three weeks. What’s different about the recent round of project completions is that we have probably used less effort than we would have in the past.
We did less, but got more.
This concept of Essentialism is still very new to me. There are many times throughout the day where I find myself feeling anxious and looking for squirrels to chase. I’m a hammer looking for nails.
But I keep repeating “less but better” to myself. When I do, somehow the things that matter most, the actions which will have the greatest impact, become clear.
Yesterday, David finally finished implementing our plan for optimizing the location pages for Sober Nation. I’m thrilled to have this in motion.
Putting this particular project in motion took longer than we expected to. But here’s the thing. Even through the progress was slow, we remained focused ONLY on continuing to make progress on this one particular project.
Optimizing our directory is the most important thing we can do. So we didn’t work on anything else.
In the past, I would have added more projects, more ideas, more opportunities, and intentionally hunted for more areas where I feel we are falling short.
But this time around, we stayed the course.
We focused on “what’s important now.”
I’m feeling so optimistic about it.
I’m uncomfortable, but it’s getting easier.
Sounds like you’ve read “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown? I’ve got it on my coffee table now and it’s shifting much for me as well. Excited for what’s happening at Sober Nation!
