I’ve been doing less and making more.
Today I want to talk about how focus and pacing have helped me increase my revenue.
LFG. 🔥
Let Me Clear Something Up
I’m a bit hypnotical in this point. Although focus is the differentiator, there is a time in everyone’s entrepreneurial journey where focus is a hindrance. In the beginning, you need to do as much as you can. It’s inefficient, but it puts you in a better position in the future.
In my 20’s, I said yes to almost every opportunity that came my way. I can’t do that anymore, but it doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision.
I said yes to every …
coffee meeting
partnership
random idea that popped into my head
Yes, I was overloaded. Yes, I probably cost myself some short term results because I didn’t put all my effort into one thing and let compounding take effect.
But I gained skills and knowledge.
I know how to do so much because I’ve been obsessed with learning, trying new things, and experimenting.
What I Know Now That I Wish I Knew Then
Knowledge is valuable. But what I’ve learned over the last five years is that knowing how to get people to do things for you is more valuable than knowing how to do them yourself.
For example, I know how to do outbound sales. I’ve taken courses, watched hundreds of hours of videos, and spent years practicing (and mostly failing) until I developed a system that works.
Outbound sales is the fuel for revenue. Until you figure out how to bring your business into the marketplace, you’ll always be limited by your network.
I’m glad I learned the skill. But my ability to execute outbound sales really took off when I found people who were better at it than me.
So yes, I developed the skill, and I don’t regret it. But the skill itself is not as valuable as learning how to build a team, lead, and manage.
If the goal is to solve a problem, then learning how to solve it yourself is usually a waste of time. The answer is always to find an expert.
These Days, I Only Do a Few Things
I don’t try to solve every problem myself anymore. In fact, it’s the opposite.
These days, I only focus on a few things.
I create content
I speak to clients
I build a team
That’s obviously a simplification. Some clients still require more of my attention, and some investments need me to be hands on.
But my days are no longer scattered. I’m not constantly switching between tasks and juggling different priorities.
I do less than ever, but I make more than ever. 🤑🤑🤑
More importantly, the quality of my work and my focus is higher than ever. My clients are happier, my team is more efficient, and I spend almost no time on customer service. I spend all my time on growth.
It’s a strange feeling. Every day I have time to do breathwork, take ice baths, train with Jules or at Muay Thai, and eat my meals with intention and gratitude.
I Couldn’t Have Gotten Here Without Going There
Some people figure things out the first time. Not me. I’ve always taken the harder path, forcing myself to learn new things even when I didn’t need to. I’m just curious by nature.
But I think I had to experience being scattered to realize there’s a better way. Falling on my face gave me the ego check I needed to ask for help and accept that other people know more than I do.
That’s when coaching, paying for education, and using money to buy access to networks became essential.
In the beginning, I had no choice. I had to learn everything myself. But if I could do it again, I would have started investing in education and insight way sooner. I could have hit my growth trajectory in my mid 20s instead of my early 30s.
If I could give one piece of advice to upstart entrepreneurs, it’s this. Get out of your own way as fast as possible. Find people smarter than you and let them teach you what they already know. Stop trying to figure it all out yourself.
Love you guys. Have a great weekend.
